CORFU. The Christmas lights were turned on tonight brightening up people΄s dour daily routine.
The old town, already delightful, got all dressed up and has become even more impressive. Traditionally the lights are turned on on the eve of St. Spyridon's day accompanied by the aroma of mouth-watering loukoumades. 'The Saint's sweets', as the old Corfiots used to call them, is a tradition that has its roots in the Venetian era on the island.
This year the lights were ready earlier and so the main roads, the alleys and the squares are already lit up for the festive season.
