Corfu Mayor: I΄ve been receiving threats of violence

Town Council
22 Nov 2018 / 17:35

CORFU. In response to the question of splitting up the Municipality brought up by Giorgos Raidestinos the Corfu Mayor said that he hasn΄t been updated on the decisions of the Ministry of the Interior.

He went on to say, however, that in his view, for such a serious matter there needs to be a unanimous decision from the Council - "49 out of 49, not 15 for and 11 against," he said, referring to the fact that two parties had walked out of the previous meeting on the subject.

Babis Haralambos from the 'Laiki Sispeirosi' party quickly pointed out that his party had walked out because of the police presence in Mon Repos outside the Council meeting room.

In reply, the Mayor, who was clearly angry, disclosed that he has been receiving personal hate messages and didn't rule out requesting police protection inside the meeting room due to the threats of violence.
