ATHENS. The President of the Hellenic Federation of Police Employees (POASY) had a series of meetings with the new Minister for Civil Protection Olga Gerovasili and the Secretary for Public Order Dimitris Anagnostakis.

The police, who have a series of unresolved issues, requested answers to organizational, financial and pension questions as well as current issues such as illegal immigration, crime and the deployment of police personnel.

The withdrawal of the police from Lefkimmi has been one of the police union's basic demands for several months.

Following their visit to Corfu, union representatives submitted a report to the Prosecutor and warned the Ministry of Civil Protection that they would take industrial action.

In a statement from POASY they said that amongst the pledges that the Minister made was that police personnel must be completely committed to its police duties and consequently, within the next two weeks the police will be withdrawn from Lefkimmi, where they are protecting the landfill.
