Corfu Tourist Accommodation Owners seek help with the refuse problem from the President of Greece

CORFU. Intervention needed to prevent the further defamation of the island.
Matters are escalating daily as a result of the nightmare with the rubbish. Along with pupils, parents, teachers and doctors tourism professionals are also sending out an SOS. The Federation of Corfu Tourism Accommodation Owners (OETK) has sent a letter to the President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopoulos:
"Following the latest tragic developments in North Corfu due to the rubbish our Federation is requesting the President to help find a solution to this serious problem before it's too late for Corfu tourism.
Your Excellency Mr. President,
We are writing to you as the highest authority in the country due to the dramatic situation in Corfu over the last five months where the lack of proper waste management has led to the whole island being filled with huge piles of refuse turning it into one big rubbish tip. We don't know what the consequences will be for the environment, public health and the economy of the island.
It is no exaggeration to say that we are experiencing scenes from Dante's hell and are deeply concerned about what dangers lie ahead from the explosion of this ecological 'bomb'.
Your Excellency Mr. President,
Knowing your love for the island, which you have visited on several occasions, we feel obliged to inform you of the huge problem we are facing which, unfortunately, has spread beyond our borders with the defamation of one of Greece's most prominent tourist destinations.
Unfortunately, the island of the First Governor of Modern Greece Ioannis Capodistrias, the composer of the national anthem Nikolaos Mantzaros, the composer of the Olympic Anthem Spyridon Samaras and of Evgenios Voulgaris finds itself in the worst situation in recent decades and has become a cautionary example for the whole of Europe as regards waste management. The British Queen has also been informed by British residents of the island.
Your Excellency Mr. President,
At this difficult time for our island, due to the inability of the local authorities to manage and find a solution for this serious problem we are turning to you and look forward to your immediate and effective intervention so that the relevant state authorities can provide an immediate solution and we can avoid any further distressing consequences.
We would like to thank you in advance for any action and initiative you take to help solve the problem."
