Ramp for those with mobility problems at Corfu Sailing Club (NAOK)

CORFU. Volunteers from ΄All Together for Corfu΄ and young rowers set up the ramp.
Volunteers and young rowers from NAOK (Corfu Sailing Club) took part in the initiative from the volunteer group 'All Together for Corfu' to set up a support ramp on the NAOK beach.
These ramps are aids for those with mobility problems as well as senior citizens to help them go into the sea safely even if they have someone to support them. A sign was also placed next to the ramp stating "Let's respect everyone's right to the sea. Please don't use this ramp for games".
There are also ramps like this one in Gouvia and Agios Ioannis Peristeron, which are included in the map of beaches with special needs facilities.
However, those who are familiar with these beaches and the Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Andreas Skoupouras stress that this equipment require maintenance and protection from the sea in winter. In some cases ramps which were set up a few years ago have been completely destroyed as there wasn't anyone to take them down and look after them.

"There is a part of Corfu which wants to take an active part, to be optimistic and put on a smile - people who believe in a better Corfu and are making efforts to accomplish that. This afternoon (22/8) a ramp was set up on the beach at NAOK for those with mobility problems and senior citizens. We would like to thank the following for their assistance: Pavlos Zorbas, Makis Poulimenos and Markos Vaptismas for constructing and maintaining the ramp as well as setting it up; Petros Agathos, Michalis Psailas, Vaggelis Skoupouras and Spyros Tsilibaris who first set up the ramps in 2015; Stamatis Kyriakis and Makis Darmanin who couldn't be with us today due to work committments; the youngsters from the rowing club and their dear coach Giorgos Notaropoulos for their assistance in carrying the ramp but mainly for their smiles and good spirits. Finally, we would like to thank the NAOK Board for their hospitality and refreshments."
