9-year-old British girl injured in fire on boat still in hospital

CORFU. Corfu Port Authority issued the following statement regarding the fire on a boat in which a young girl and her parents were injured:
Corfu General Hospital informed Corfu Port Authority of three people who suffered injuries following fire breaking out on a boat.
Port Authority personnel went immediately to the hospital, where they were told by the captain and co-owner of the M/V 'Plumbago Go', under a British flag, that as the boat was sailing to the north of Vidos Island, fire broke out in the engine, which they immediately extinguished.
There were six foreign nationals on the 'Plumbago Go' (4 adults and 2 children), who were taken on board another private craft which was in the area and then taken to the old port.
One child was injured - who was taken by ambulance to Corfu General Hospital, where she remains hospitalised - and two adults who are hospitalised in a private clinic.
The boat was towed to Kouloura and hoisted out of the water by a private individual and then transferred to the Port Authority, where it is being held. It has been prohibited from sailing until the damage has been repaired and it has received a certificate of seaworthiness.
Corfu Port Authority is conducting an investigation into the incident.
There was no sea pollution caused by the incident.
