Fire in Campiello flat – 20-year-old student suffers hand burns

CORFU. Fire broke out in a first floor flat in Campiello just after 5 o’clock this morning.
The Fire Service, with 3 fire engines and 5 men, was able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other flats.
According to the Fire Service Director, Andreas Rizos, the fire was caused by olive oil in a pan catching fire due to the 20-year-old student resident forgetting to turn off the cooker. The student tried unsuccessfully to extinguish it and suffered burns to his hands in the process.
The young man has been taken to the hospital.
