The Health Minister’s statement at the Ionian Islands Development Conference

CORFU. At the Regional Development Conference which is taking place in Corfu at the moment, the Minister of Health, Andreas Xanthos, announced that there would be important additions to medical and nursing personnel at the hospital.
This is what he said regarding health services in the Ionian Islands:
- Additional hospital medical and nursing personnel. 39 permanent positions for Health Service (ESY) doctors of various specialities for all the hospitals have been announced in the period 2016-17. 31 permanent personnel (nurses, paramedical staff etc.) have already been recruited, with another 15 still to be added.
- Zakynthos Hospital is operating normally once again following the unjustified and drawn-out suspension of surgical department operations. The next step is to ensure that the closed wards in the ICU are functioning.
- Ithaki now has a permanent paediatrician.
- The new hospital in Lefkada will open in 2018.
- The Emergency Department will be upgraded and the MRI will be fully functional at Corfu Hospital.
- Corfu Urban Health Centre emergency clinic will be open in the evenings.
- 3 Local Health Units (TOMY) in Corfu, Cephalonia and Zakynthos will open in the near future.
