New 48-hour strike by Corfu seamen

CORFU.Corfu seamen have called a new 48-hour strike on the ferry services Corfu-Igoumenitsa-Lefkimmi-Diapontia Islands.

The union made the following announcement: “Following the 4-day suspension of the strike, to give time to negotiate our demands, there is still no clear, written commitment from the Marine Ministry and Ferryboat Union regarding our following demands:
1.       To be included in the collective labour agreement - Rest and refreshment breaks for the crews to be increased from 35 minutes to 1 hour.
2.       To be included in the collective labour agreement - A 3% pay increase
3.       A decrease in the period of time that ferry boats are docked, which is up to 5 months a year at the moment.
4.       All crews to receive the night pay supplement.
5.       Another engineering apprentice to be added to the ‘open’ type boats.
6.       Another member of staff to be added to the canteens on the ‘open’ type boats during the summer period.
Emergency Personnel
Following the meeting of the union’s board, we have decided to proceed – as we had previously announced – with continuous 48-hour strikes commencing at 6am on Thursday 9/11 until the resolution of our fair demands.”
To cover emergencies, the following emergency ferry services will be available for the period 6am Thursday 9th to 6am Saturday 11th:
