Major operation during the night to transport donated organs from Corfu Hospital(Photos and Video)

CORFU.In a generous and noble gesture, the tragic parents found the strength to donate their son’s organs in order to save the lives of other patients.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, an operation was underway at Corfu Hospital to facilitate the transfer of organs donated by the family of 19-year-old Christos.
Doctors from the National Transplant Organization arrived after midnight in an Air Force plane and sped to the hospital with a police escort.
The specialist medical personnel undertook a complex surgical operation which was completed just after 6am and the donated organs were speedily transferred with maximum safety measures to the airport. You can see photos here.
19-year-old Christos Kourkoulos, after the fatal accident on 18 October on Eth. Paleokastritsas Rd which cost him his life along with that of his passenger, had been in the ICU - brain-dead and without any sign of recovery. He will now give life to others who are in need – donating organs to Thessaloniki, Germany and Austria. Patients there will now undergo life-saving transplant operations.
According to the hospital announcement, the procedure for the airlift and identification of organ recipients, coordinated by the National Transplant Organization, began at 2 o’clock this morning with the arrival at Corfu Hospital of special teams from Austria, Thessaloniki and Germany to receive the heart (Austria), liver, pancreas, kidneys and adrenals (Thessaloniki) and lungs (Germany).
